Leslie Walker is somewhat new to the Nashville photography scene but in no way is she new to wedding photography! Leslie recently moved to music city from Charlston, SC and it’s always great to get new talent here. We got the chance to meet over the summer and it was wonderful to get to know her and her photography style. Her photos have a classic, clean, and simple feel to them which I love and I know a lot of brides and grooms will love to. Let’s learn a little bit more about Leslie!
Why did you choose to work in weddings/events? How did you get started?
Sometimes things are truly a blessing in disguise. I was working for a marketing company for about 2 years when my boss had to lay me off because our business had gone down so quickly. I was already shooting part-time so I decided to take the leap and try photography full time. Why weddings? I love everything about weddings! I always knew about my love for photography but while I was planning my own wedding I found my love for wedding photography. I’ve been hooked ever since
How would you describe your style/product?
This is always a hard question to answer. So much of who I am goes into my photography. If I had to define a style though I would say my images are simple and elegant, candid and clean, and full of emotion. My focus is to tell YOUR story through my images. I try to find unique and creative ways to document your day while remaining as out of the way as possible.Nothing annoys me more than forced, uncomfortable images.
What separates you from other Nashville area vendors?
Well, for one thing- I just moved here from Charleston, SC so I’m new to the Nashville scene but not new to wedding photography. I strive to give you the best of me from the second we first communicate. I want your wedding pictures to be everything you dreamed of and more. And even above that, I want your experience with me to be a great one! I hope to really get to know my brides and grooms so that when I’m there on their wedding day I’m an integral part of the day and I’m capturing the most important moments.
What would you be doing if you did not work in weddings?
Probably sitting in a cubicle working for some advertising company and wondering how to get out of it. Now that I am lucky enough to be working in my passion, I know this is what I’ll do for the rest of my life. I’ve never felt so strongly led by God to do something like I do with my career.
Favorite TV show and why?
This is tough. I absolutely loved LOST when it was on and miss the hour each week that I would watch this and couldn’t breathe from all the suspense! Now though, I am totally in love with Brothers & Sisters and I think it’s one of the best shows on TV!
Funniest moment you’ve ever witnessed at a wedding?
As I was headed out of the reception to get ready for the bride & groom’s exit, I turned around to see a guest holding a 3 foot vase filled with at least 10 beers. I’m not sure where he put the flowers but he certainly found himself the largest, and most expensive beer mug I’ve ever seen.
What advice would you give to brides on choosing a photographer?
Choose me!Just kidding…kind of. But seriously, choose a photographer that you click with. It’s so important that you feel comfortable around your photogapher- you’ll be around them all day! You should obviously love their work but I think above that you need to be excited to have them with you on your wedding day.
What advice would you give to brides on the wedding planning process in general?
Hire a wedding planner! Seriously… I tried to do it all myself and I regret that. Wedding planning is a ton of work and it’s not something you’ve done before so you’re learning as you go. Find someone who can make your vision for your day come to life and then let them do what they do best. Have fun with planning and try not to stress too much. Everything works out. If the flowers aren’t the perfect shade of yellow…it really doesn’t matter. You’ll be married and your family and friends will be there with you and thats all that matters. Enjoy every second of the days leading up to your wedding day. Take a few minutes to sit by yourself and soak it all in
