I promised a big announcement for my first post of 2011 so naturally it’s time to deliver.
First however some reflection…
Over the past few years I’ve come up with a theme for each year depending on what what was going on in my life. 2007 was the year of crazy change. Brian and I moved in together, we adopted two adorable puppies, I got a promotion at work, Brian received a job offer in Nashville, we picked up and moved across the country, set-up yet another apartment, and I began work at a temp-job while starting a new business…whew!
2008 was all about new businesses. I threw myself into building Simply Stunning Events and spent 50-60 hours a week working on my business plan, gaining new clients, meeting vendors, exploring all the venues of Nashville, and living and breathing weddings. Brian began his photography business and he worked on developing his creative style while I worked behind the scenes on the business aspect. Oh and in the midst of all that, we become engaged.
2009 was dubbed the “Year of the Wedding”. And while our own wedding may have taken front and center stage in our world, almost everything we did that year revolved around weddings, I planned weddings, coordinated weddings, Brian photographed weddings, and we attended and participated in friends and family member’s weddings all over the country. Almost every weekend of 2009 was consumed in some fashion, by a wedding.
This past year, 2010, was all about balance. I was determined to keep the year a simple one and make no major life changes whatsoever. My business continued to grow which was amazing but I made a point to learn some balance and train myself to take time for “me” once in a while. I actually set office hours for the first time in 3 years, forced myself to stop checking email at 11 PM, and took a real vacation for once. I am happy to report that there were no crazy changes in 2010 and we were able to take a year to just enjoy our life as it is.
Now this brings me to 2011. What’s in store for us this year? Well, 2011 is the year that Brian and I will become parents…
Yup, that’s right, we’re having a BABY! And we couldn’t be more excited for this totally new adventure. We are due July 8th, and as of now I am 14 weeks along and feeling pretty good! I admit there was a month or two of exhaustion, mild nausea, and overall just feeling “off” but now I’m feeling more like myself again and regaining some energy.
Just a quick note to all of my wonderful clients who may be reading this, while my personal life is going to drastically change, my work and business will continue to move forward as per usual (for the most part), and it is my goal for Simply Stunning to continue to grow and get even better! There will be a few small changes to office hours and other details so that I can best balance being a mom and still delivering great service but I’ll be in touch this month with further information.
So with that, any predictions on the gender of baby Kaplan?
For fun we’re going to do a poll (with a prize!). Leave a comment on the blog with your prediction then after we find out, we will randomly choose a name from all of the correct commenters and the winner will receive a gift card!
Here’s to 2011!
